My name is Michelle Steffany, I am the creator, jeweller & dreamer behind Mētzli. I am launching this blog to share my journey in jewellery making and explore ethical fashion-related topics!

Creating Jewellery

This is the very first photo I took (a very raw selfie sent to my Mum!) after completing my first silver jewellery piece.

I filed, soldered, textured, created jump rings, and finalised my tree root earrings! Since then, making jewellery has been a bit of an obsession - in a good way.

Today, I work both out of my house with my own tools and from the Jewellers Collective workshop based in West Auckland.

A Bit About Me

I came to New Zealand in 2019. I'm from Mexico originally but spent my childhood moving between Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Brazil, USA, and Switzerland. My adult life has been spent travelling, along with living in Australia and New Zealand. Travel is my ultimate passion, and embedded within that, is the absolute love for artisan jewellery. Throughout my travels, my favourite activities are walking artisan markets, speaking with artisans of their traditional crafts, and expanding my own collection of unique artisanmade pieces.

I recently completed a Master's in Sustainable Business, and combined with my background in policy, I realised there is no better time than now to launch the social enterprise I have always dreamed of. In an effort to combine my three passions (travel, jewellery & sustainability), I am committed to launching my own social enterprise that celebrates and empowers artisan women in my native land, Mexico.

Creating Mētzli

I created Mētzli to build a founding platform where I hope to one day partner with artisan women in Mexico. For now, the Mētzli brand is my own hand-crafted pieces to help raise money for building my dream social enterprise. Through Mētzli, I hope to work in advancing the following Sustainable Development Goals:
